The MDCPS Report Child Abuse app allows you to quickly and easily report instances of child abuse in the state of Mississippi.

This secure app has been provided to report suspected child abuse, neglect, exploitation, human trafficking, abandonment, child fatalities, and prevention service referrals. Click here for help recognizing signs of abuse.

A situation where a child is at immediate risk of abuse/neglect that could result in death or serious harm is considered an emergency. Stop now and call 911 immediately.

Any person who knows or has reason to suspect abuse or neglect of a child by a parent, legal custodian, caregiver, or other person(s) responsible for the child’s care, is required by law to make a report to the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services. See Section 43-21-105 and Section 43-21-353 of the Mississippi Code for more information.

BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE (as known):

  1. Victim’s name, address or location, school information, approximate age, race and sex;
  2. Description of the situation and marks or bruises that may be present;
  3. Person responsible for victim’s care, alleged perpetrator name(s), and witnesses to the situation;
  4. Other relevant information that would expedite an investigation such as; manufacturing of drugs in the home, possession of weapons, domestic violence, etc.

You can also call the Mississippi Abuse Hotline at 1-800-222-8000 if you prefer to submit a report verbally.

The app will open to the intro screen when you first open it. Press the “Start Here” button to start filling out a report, or the “Need Help?” button if you would like to read more information about filling out a report.

If you were in the middle of filling out a report when you last exited the app, you will have the option to return to editing that report.

Victims

The first step of the form is to gather victim information. The required fields on this page include the “Address or Location” of the victim, the county where the victim resides, and the type of maltreatment; but please provide as much information as possible. Be sure to add information for each victim to be included in this report.

Alleged Perpetrators

After the victim information has been provided, alleged perpetrator information will be requested. The required fields on this page include the “Relationship to the Victim” of the alleged perpetrator and if this person is responsible for the care of the victim(s), but please provide as much information as possible. Be sure to add information for each alleged perpetrator to be included in this report.

Pre-Witness Question

After entering information about alleged perpetrators, you will be asked if you know of any witnesses to the incident. If so answer yes, and you will be able to enter information about witnesses, otherwise answer no to skip the witness section.

If you have information to provide about possible witnesses to this incident, enter them on this page. If you provide information about a witness, you are required to answer if that person is responsible for the care of the victim(s).

After entering information about witnesses, you will be asked if you know of any other household members living with the victims to add to the report. If so answer yes, and you will be able to enter information about other household members, otherwise answer no to skip the other household members section.

If you have information to provide about other household members living with the victims not previously mentioned in the report, enter them on this page. If you provide information about an other household member, you are required to answer if that person is responsible for the care of the victim(s).

What happened?

After providing information about each of the individuals involved with this incident, Write a description of the incident to attach to the report. Be as descriptive and specific as possible about the incident you are reporting. Keep in mind that Victims, Perpetrators, Witnesses, and Other Household Members have been entered on different pages in the form.

After filling out the report, please provide information about yourself. You may choose to remain anonymous, or you can choose to provide any information about yourself. Any information you provide will remain confidential per Mississippi Code annotated 97-5-51.

Review

Once you have completed an entire form, you will be able to review your report before submitting it to MDCPS. Please read through all the information you have provided to ensure it is correct.

Once ready, tap the “Submit” button to send the report to MDCPS.

Edit

On the Review page, you have the option of editing report information. Tap the “Edit” button for any person or piece of information on the Review page and you will be presented with the Edit screen. Edit any information you need to correct, and tap the “Save” button to save your changes or the “Cancel” button to exit the edit screen without saving your changes.

Tooltip

Every screen in the app contains a tooltip button. Tapping this tooltip button will show a helpful message about each page in the app, including the fields for the page and any additional information about what information to provide in each page. Each tooltip view contains a button that will provide you with additional information about the app.

Submission Complete

Once the report has been submitted successfully, you will be given a confirmation number for the report, as well as an easy way to save the confirmation number. Tapping the “Save Confirmation Number” button will save a screenshot of the number to the camera roll on your phone.
